A four-point bending test was recently conducted at Virginia Tech on a 5-ft-wide by 40-ft-long FastFloor module, that had previously been used in Phase 1 vibration testing. The test aimed to evaluate the maximum strength of the FastFloor module under gravity loading, assess the degree of composite action between the steel plate and the supporting W-section beams, and measure the forces transferred through the connections up to failure. The specimen was loaded vertically at third points while vertical and horizontal displacements were recorded, and the buckling response of the steel plate was observed. The test concluded with failure at the bolted connection between the specimen beams and the supporting girder, while significant twist of the beams was observed.
