SDII researchers, led by Ph.D. candidate Raul Avellaneda-Ramirez and recent Ph.D. graduate Dr. Hamid Foroughi, developed two new SDII research reports that have just been recently released. The first report led by Avellaneda-Ramirez and covers Cantilever Testing of Concrete-Filled Steel Deck Composite Diaphragms Using Various Types of Steel Reinforcing. The report provides a comprehensive summary of full-scale concrete-filled steel deck diaphragm tests and benchmarks the strength and ductility of these systems across a large variety of practical design prototypes. The second report led by Foroughi covers Seismic Behavior of Steel SCBF Buildings Including Consideration of Diaphragm Inelasticity, and includes 3D building simulations that explore the performance of steel braced frame buildings designed with different existing and proposed diaphragm design procedures. Overall the simulations demonstrate that alternative seismic diaphragm design using Rs of 2.0 for concrete-filled steel deck floor diaphragms and Rs of 2.5 for bare (untopped) steel deck roof diaphragms are acceptable.
