The SDII Workshop will be held on January 10, 2019 at Hilton San Francisco Airport Bayfront, 600 Airport Blvd, Burlingame, CA 94010. Key stakeholders from the North American structural engineering community will come together to be brought up to speed on SDII research and provide critical feedback and ideas on the next stages of SDII activities.
Over the past three years, the Steel Diaphragm Innovation Initiative (SDII) has worked to leverage a unique industry-academic partnership to advance the seismic performance of steel floor and roof diaphragms utilized in steel buildings. Experiments, simulations, and a healthy dose of codes and standards work have led to new insights, new capabilities, and new thinking about this important system within buildings.
Now that we are over half-way into the five-year SDII effort, it’s time to take stock of how far we have come and obtain critical guidance on where we need to go over the next two years. To that end, SDII is holding a workshop with key stakeholders on January 10, 2019.
The Workshop will include in-depth presentations from the research team – Dr. Sam Easterling, Dr. Matthew Eatherton, and Dr. Jerry Hajjar, and Dr. Ben Schafer, – followed by a brainstorming session focused on providing feedback on the remaining research goals, standardization of the results, and needed outreach to the engineering community. The workshop schedule and a participant questionnaire for the workshop attendees were provided on 3 January 2019: workshop schedule: PDF, participant questionnaire: PDF
A summary of the workshop will be provided upon its conclusion. The SDII research team looks forward to leading and learning in this effort.
